In the Studio with John Folchi

John Folchi was born in the Bronx and studied at the Art Students League in Manhattan. He received his BA in 1977 and his MA in 1980, both from Lehman College where he studied with noted Greek artist Theo Stavropoulos. During the 1970s he participated in group shows at The Bronx Museum of Art. In the early 1980s, he exhibited at the Terrain Gallery in Soho. In 2000, he received a solo exhibition at the Sears Peyton Gallery in Manhattan.

In 2013, he received a solo show “In the Park” at the Images Briarcliff Gallery in Briarcliff Manor, NY and also participated in group shows at the Brian Morris Gallery in the Lower East Side, the CCCP Gallery North Light, the Friday Studio Gallery, and Loft 594 in Bushwick, Brooklyn, the e Gallery in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn and the Mark Gruber Gallery in New Paltz, New York.

His work can also be seen at the Hoadley Gallery in Lenox, Mass and the Mary Childs Studio in Great Barrington. He is represented by Kevin Barry Fine Art in Los Angeles and Las Vegas and Fresh Paint Art Advisors in Culver City, California.

In 2013, there were two solo exhibitions of his Hudson River Valley landscapes at the Warner Library in Tarrytown and the Gallery on Cedar in Dobbs Ferry. In 2014, he also received a solo exhibition at the White Plains Public Library.

How is self isolation due to the virus affecting your work?

“Actually, and fortunately, it hasn't changed much for me as I work in a home studio space. If anything, lack of outside stimulus such as gallery and museum visits, concerts, etc. has forced a greater focus on work. However I am anxiously looking forward to getting back to normal.“
