DATE: 2008-2014

SRFA  worked  closely  with Hines  and  members  of the CityCenterDC (CCDC)  design  team  to  implement  a  plan  to  create  a  dynamic  visual  arts program  for  what  will  be  one  of  the  nation’s  most  significant  ground-up, mixed-use  development  projects  upon  its  completion  in  early  2014.   Located  in  the  heart  of  downtown  Washington,  DC,  the  development includes  commercial  and  residential  buildings,  retail-oriented  pedestrian streetscapes,  a  central  plaza  and  a  new  park.    The  public  art  program  will contribute  a  hallmark  of  design  and  programmatic  innovation  to  the  10-acre  site.  By  conducting  extensive  research  of  artists  working  globally, SRFA:

  • Established art program policies and art selection process to include RFPs and artist contracts;

  • Organized Curatorial Advisory Panel to reflect leaders of local cultural institutions and agencies;

  • Conducted meetings with governmental design and cultural agencies and regional arts organizations to introduce project and understand constituency needs;

  • Prepared comprehensive art program budget and timetable with milestones; and

  • Collaborated with client’s brand strategists to support marketing and sales effort.

The  process  yielded  artists’ proposals  for  the  most  dynamic  and appropriate  solutions,  which  ranged  from  the  creation  of  new  iconic landmarks  to  temporary  programs  that  encourage  continual  discovery  and engagement.  The  overall  art  program  presented  diverse  aesthetic expressions, innovative  uses  of  varied  media  and  opportunities  to  engage  with  works  of art  on  both  a  grand  and  more  intimate  scale.
