In the Studio with Charles Luce

Artist Statement:

The ultimate interest that drives my studio practice is an ongoing exploration of TIME, LOCATION, and MEMORY. I create visual and conceptual models that might reveal something about our relationship to the cosmos. Working on paper has always been the foundation of my practice. The works on paper function as a kind of formal ‘laboratory notation’ presenting observations, investigative processes and poetic reflections. These schematic works frequently direct the more ambitious fabrication and installation projects.

The visual approaches I have embraced are eclectic. I enjoy combining two and three-dimensional elements made from a broad range of materials and methods for site-specific installations as well as ‘stand alone’ work. For my current on-going project, The Pilgrimage Project, I have created a series of unique sculptures and prints that combine traditional printmaking, with sewing, dyeing and digital printing on fabrics. This project also includes several drawing series, steel casting, hand-built and cast clay sculptures, woodwork, clothing design, and photography.
